Monthly WordPress and WooCommerce Digest What’s New in Last February?

It’s another hectic month for WordPress and WooCommerce advocates. Last month, we had the new upgrade versions for both WordPress with WordPress 4.1 maintenance and WooCommerce WooCommerce 2.3 “The Handsome Hippo”. We made an infographic for WooCommerce 2.3 and had it gone viral that proves how much love the new version got from WooCommerce users.

Okay, now let’s check out the list of the most notable updates for you in last February.

WordPress 4.1.1 maintenance release

WordPress 4.1.1 is a maintenance release for WordPress 4.1 with 21 bugs fixed. Nacin addressed that there was not much changed except for “one annoying issue where a tag and a category with the same name could get muddled and prevent each other from being updated”.

New design in WordPress theme directory

Have you checked WordPress theme repository lately? We’ve got a whole new look of it:

The purpose of the appearance update is to make the theme directory on and admin themes browser consistent with each other. With this new design, you can search and filter themes much faster. Themes will be displayed in thumbnail and browsed via infinitive scroll.

WordPress for iOS 4.8 updated

You may already know that WordPress also has an app. And the latest version we have in February is version 4.8 with some notable features:

  • WYSIWYG visual editor updated
  • Added options to edit image settings in posts and pages
  • Ability to retry failed image uploads

What’s going on with WordPress 4.2?

When we’re sitting here, there are a lot of new things running behind the making core WordPress team. From Make WordPress, 10th March is the enhancement deadline for WordPress 4.2. So far, in February, we have got:

  • Improving mobile flow in 4.2
  • Customizer theme switcher, Press this and other plugins were proposed to be featured in 4.2
  • Splitting taxonomy term in 4.2 in which shared items in wp_terms table are split into separate terms

WooCommerce 2.3 official release

WooCommerce 2.3 is a great improvement from the previous version, with more “handsome” design and look. I won’t repeat unnecessary words on this awesome version. WooCommerce 2.3 fix releases

Last month, WooThemes team also released 2 update versions for WooCommerce 2.3 WooCommerce 2.3.4 and 2.3.5.

These versions focus on some bugs fixing, server setup errors and other minor issues.
